La GPX Racing ha rinunciato all’invito che si era guadagnata per prendere parte alla 24h di Le Mans del 2021.
Il team aveva automaticamente staccato il biglietto per essere al via della gara che si terrà il weekend del 12-13 giugno sul Circuit de la Sarthe grazie al secondo piazzamento in classifica al termine della Asian Le Mans Series.
Entro la giornata di martedì bisognava dare conferma dell’iscrizione, che nel caso della GPX sarebbe stata per la Classe LMGTE-Am, con eventuale opzione di passaggio in LMGTE-Pro, ma con grande onestà è arrivata la rinuncia pensando di non essere pronti a compiere un salto del genere.
“Le Mans resta uno dei nostri obiettivi, ma allo stato attuale delle cose non sentiamo di avere il pacchetto giusto per parteciparvi – ha ammesso il team principal, Pierre-Brice Mena – Sarebbe una decisione affrettata che non ci permetterebbe di essere alla partenza nelle condizioni che desideriamo”.
“Ci sono troppe incognite per pianificare il progetto secondo i nostri standard e, semplicemente, questo non è il momento migliore. Siamo convinti che ci saranno altre opportunità, quindi dobbiamo ancora avere un po’ di pazienza!”.
A questo punto la palla passa in mano all’Automobile Club De L’Ouest, che in quanto organizzatore dell’evento può decidere cosa fare del posto vacante per la suddetta categoria.
